Infusion of Color and Culture

October 26th, 2011

Every wedding season brings us new and exciting challenges and wonderful couples that appreciate our artistic vision. We are lucky to have so many creative clients that want to infuse their personalities and traditions into their wedding day, which allows us the ability to feature their weddings and their creativity to publications and blogs for others to enjoy and be inspired.

Jag and Priya’s wedding was so full of color and tradition that we could not point the camera in a bad direction. The amazing team that helped Jag and Priya with their wedding day really showcased their talents and gave us, as well as their guests, a magical journey. We hope you enjoy this sneak peek of their beautiful wedding. Thanks to all the fabulous vendors! Richmond Omni Hotel, CCS Events, GML, Gulmohar Weddings, Extreme DJ’s.

A Virginia Vineyard Wedding

September 21st, 2011

When reading about far away destination weddings or any wedding that takes place outside our own city, we sigh imagining ourselves photographing in those gorgeous locations. We are truly lucky to live in a state that offers us so many various landscapes and backdrops that are purely breathtaking. We were so fortunate to tour Orange County back in the Spring, our own backyard, that we could not wait to photograph an event in that part of Virginia and capture the true beauty of natural landscapes and historical venues.

We had the amazing opportunity to photograph a gorgeous couple in Charlottesville, Virginia and revisit the small quaint towns that make this part of Virginia so tranquil and magical. The reception venue the couple chose was King Family Vineyards, a spectacular place with acres of luscious grass, rolling hills, and open sky. If you are searching for the perfect place for your wedding that offers natural and simple beauty, then look towards the mountains of Virginia!

Black Friday vs. Bridal Show

August 15th, 2011

If you have ever been shopping on Black Friday, right after Thanksgiving, you know the craziness that fills the air and the madness that takes over the many aisles in every store you visit. The shoppers are excited to be on the hunt for the next big deal and hoping nothing runs out before they get there. Well, that’s what a day at a bridal show is like for us. The line of brides, grooms, moms, and bridesmaids outside the door makes us run around like crazy making sure everything is ready, while we look at the fast ticking clock warning the doors will soon open and the large crowd will soon take over the the booth and aisles. It’s really exciting to meet so many happy and excited brides, even when you tell them their date has already been booked, when it is a year and a half away! The best part about meeting the brides and grooms is how much we are able to help them with their planning when they meet us for just a short while. We can guide them to the other great vendors just a few feet away and can show them photographs of venues we have photographed before to give them a better idea of how amazing and beautiful their wedding day will also be. Although it is wise to plan far in advance, do know that even if your immediate choice of vendors are already taken, there are many others that are available and ready to make your day special. Where else can you enter to win prizes, get fed, and be entertained by a fashion show? Be smart and plan ahead and by all means, have fun!

Looks Can Be Deceiving- Image of the Week

July 13th, 2011

When you hire a professional photographer you should expect that professional to know lighting and posing and be skilled in photographing you in a way that is flattering. You should also expect that no matter how challenging the location may be, they will be able to use their skills and expertise to maximize whatever resources are available. Although we do a large quantity of portraits in our studio, photographing in remote locations is a fun challenge for us. It’s an opportunity to step out of the boat and create unique images in a unique setting, like this week’s Image of the Week. No one knows the extensive hike it took to travel to this location, the sand dunes at the Outer Banks, in the very hot summer weather. You also can’t tell that the photographer and model were sunburned, had blisters on their feet, and were completely exhausted when they reached their destination. What you do see is a unique portrait in an unlikely place that reflects the adventurous personalities of the photographer and model, no matter how difficult it was to get there! Don’t be afraid to reflect your personality in your bridal portraits, as quirky or odd as your friends and family may say it is. Not every bride wants an in-studio portrait, so for those that want a little adventure and something off the beaten path, we accept your challenge!

Image of the Week- The Vows of the Stepparent

June 28th, 2011

We are so excited that our new site is live and our blog has a fresh new look! Now we can resume our weekly series featuring our favorite images. Our Image of the Week today comes from a wedding couple we recently photographed. We photograph many blended families, where the bride or groom have children from a previous relationship and we see the important role this new dynamic plays in the success of this new marriage. It’s so heart warming when you see the love that the new stepparent has for their stepchildren and the acceptance the children have for the new parent in their lives. In planning their wedding, couples have incorporated a special part of their ceremony that includes the children and the stepparent’s vow to them, to always love, take care of them, and always be there for them. During the ceremony, the new stepparent presents the child with a token to remember this vow, similar to the rings the bride and groom exchange. In a modern world where blended families are common, it’s nice to see that a traditional token of your love for another person is still honored and celebrated.
